Cashews were first introduced into Thailand in 1901. In 1986, The Thai Government had filed cashews under the 6th national economics and social development plan as one of the top coming agricultural export production plants. By 1994, Thailand aims to secure some 20 % of the world cashew trade.
– The origin of cashew is based on evidence that strongly indicates Brazil, or at least tropical South America, as the center of origination of the species currently known as Anacardium occidentale. The warm and moist climate conditions found especially in the coastal regions of Northeast Brazil, with air humidity about 70 %, are ideal for cashew growing. The name cashew is in fact derived from the indigenous dialect word “acaju”
Vietnam Cashew Industry is currently referred to as the “undisputed King of Cashew nuts for exports,” outdoing many Southeast Asian countries, and emerging as the leading producer and exporter of cashew nuts for the last 17 years.
